Tanguar Haor is the second largest freshwater wetland in Bangladesh. It is located in Dharmapasha and Tahirpur Upazilas, about 40 km from Sunamganj district town of Sylhet. Sunamganj is called the daughter of Haor because of Tanguar Haor. This Haor, rich in biodiversity, was declared as the second area of Bangladesh on January 20, 2000. Tanguar Haor is full of dazzling natural beauty. Tanguar Haor is one of the largest group of water bodies in Bangladesh. At present, the total number of water mahals is 51 and its total area is 6912.20 acres. However, during the monsoon season, the area of the entire Haor, including reed forest and Hijal-Karach forest, is about 20,000 acres. This Haor looks magical in the rainy season. Nature has grown in this huge wetland on its own whim. If you do not see, the beauty of your own eyes can not be realized. Somewhere in the Haor, you will see a fair of various types of water lilies, sometimes a wonderful arrangement of various trees and plants. Never again will the crystal clear water flow calmly. This beautiful Haor is located in the foothills of Meghalaya, India. About 36 springs come from the Meghalaya mountains and merge directly into the water of the Haor. Before Howrah, there were 160 Beels with 120 Kandhas (banks). So the locals call it six twenty Kandhar nine twenty bill. Rows and rows of hijl, karch and reed forests on the banks of the bill. Fish, trees and birds are the three allies of Tanguar Haor. Tanguar Haor is called the reservoir of native fish. It is most important as a fish sanctuary. There are about 200 species of plants, as well as 41 species of fish, 11 species of amphibians, 6 species of tortoises, 6 species of chameleons, 21 species of snakes. The arrival of a large number of guest birds occurs in the winter season. The endangered palace Eagle, large-scale, Grey-kistok, Vulture, Gangchill, buck, stork, etc., the environment is mukharu. Thousands of tourists visit here every year.
When to go:
The rainy season is the best time. Because in the rainy season, the Haor is full of water. However, its nature is different in winter. In winter, thousands of guests can see the birds roaming.
How to go there:
If you want to go to Tanguar Haor, first you have to go to Sunamganj. Sunamganj can be reached directly by bus from Dhaka. The distance from Dhaka to Sunamganj is 296 kilometers. Shyamoli, Ena, Mamun, Nur, Ekta, Saudia, Newline, Mitali etc. buses leave from Dhaka’s Saidabad for Sunamganj. AC and non-AC bus fares range from Rs 550 to Rs 900.
It is not possible to go directly to Sunamganj by rail. So you have to go to Sylhet by train from Dhaka to Sylhet. Then you have to come to Sunamganj by bus. Sylhet can be reached by train like Upban, Udayan, Paharika, Jayantika etc. Rent varies from Rs 80 to Rs 100. You can go to Sylhet from Dhaka by air again. Bangladesh Biman, Jet Air, Nova Air, Regent Air, United Air and other airlines operate regular flights from Dhaka to Sylhet. Rent 3000 to 4000 TK. Then you have to go to Sunamganj by bus from Sylhet. From Sunamganj bus stand, a rickshaw will go to Saheb Bazar Ghat. From Saheb Bazar Ghat you can go directly to Tanguar Haor by motorboat or speed boat. Renting an engine-driven boat costs 2500 to 3000 TK and takes 5 hours. Money Again, the speedboat takes two hours and costs from Rs 6,500 to Rs 6,000.
How to go at low cost:
If you go directly to Sunamganj by non-AC bus from Dhaka, the fare is less. In this case, the rent is 550 TK. From Saheb Bazar Ghat in Sunamganj, go directly to Tanguar Haor by motorized boat. If many people go together, the rent is less. Rent from 2500 to 3000 TK.
How to go luxuriously:
You can go to Sunamganj by AC bus from Dhaka. The rent is 800 to 900 TK. If you want to go by air, you have to go from Dhaka to Sylhet. From there you have to go to Sunamganj by bus or private car. You can go to Tanguar Haor by speed boat from Saheb Bazar. Speed boats take less time, fares range from Rs 6,500 to Rs 6,000.
Where to stay:
If you want to stay in Haor at night, you can stay in the boat. The fare of these boats, including travel fare is 5000 TK. The rent of all the engine-driven boats with high commode, bathroom and roof tarpaulin ranges from Rs 8,000 to Rs 10,000. Rents are higher on holidays. Again, the government has made arrangements to stay in the resthouse of Tekerghat Limestone Mine Project, 3 km northeast. If you have a short tour, you can stay in Haor by boat at a low cost at night. You can stay in the hotels of Sunamganj city at a low cost. You can stay at a low cost in hotels like Hotel Noor, Hotel Mizan, Hotel Serpinia, Hotel Noorani etc. Rent 400 to 600 TK.
How to stay in a luxurious way:
Sunamganj has high-quality hotels, motels and resorts. Surma Valley Residential Resort is one of them. It costs 1500 TK.
Where to eat:
If you rent a boat for the night, you will always have the necessary market, you can cook and eat accordingly. You will not find such a good food hotel in Tahirpur. However, some hotels will get food in medium quality hotels. There are good quality food hotels in Sunamganj city and you can eat them. Among them, five brothers Hotel, Janata Hotel, Hotel Raj are notable.

Advice to do that!
When renting vehicles and hotels, check and choose. In the evening you can enjoy the nature of the Haor. Keep the power bank with an extra battery. Keep essentials with food saline. Call 99 in case of emergency.
Advice not to do those things!
If you don’t know how to swim, don’t go into deep water. Don’t eat things given to you by strangers. Do not contaminate the water by throwing dirt in the haor water.
